Bikes & Breakfast with the Chagrin Valley Beagles was held on Saturday May 11th, 2019. The morning broke with cool temps, bright sunshine and joyous birdsong as foot followers and bike riders gathered at the Chagrin Valley Hunt Kennels. Master of Beagles Laura welcomed guests and staff as they enjoyed catching up over a stirrup cup. Huntsman Karen called everyone together and led the beagles out of kennels while whippers-in Sara, Susan, John, Laura, and Jessica assisted with the pack. Karen guided the pack down the drive and past the hunt club. We carefully crossed over Old Mill Road and over the traffic bridge handing a right down Chagrin River Road where a number of our wiley hunters gave tongue to a rabbit behind the complex housing the fitness center. We brought the pack back together to cross the pedestrian bridge, taking a moment to revel in the beauty of the St. Christopher's by the River church yard. We crossed back over Old Mill Rd and headed up Epping all the way up to Berkshire triangle where we were entertained by Karen's cheerful whistling. After taking a moment at the triangle we headed back down Epping and hanging a right on Sudbury and made our way back to kennels.
Chagrin Valley Hunt Huntsman Colin Brown provided and enjoyable and educational tour of the kennels where he discussed the foxhounds daily routine, their diets and general care. Guests enjoyed being able to observe the elegant and wonderfully social foxhounds sunbathing in their yards as Colin wrapped up the discussion and entertained further questions.
Guests met back up at the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club where they discussed the mornings events over a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon, fresh fruit and coffee. It was a busy morning in the village and an enjoyable time was had by all.
